Former Member of Parliament Shariful arrested

Three-time former Member of Parliament from Bogura-2 (Shibganj) constituency and district president of the Jatiya Party, Shariful Islam Jinnah (76), has been arrested by the District Detective Branch (DB).

He was arrested early Friday morning (March 27) from the Ramna area of the capital, Dhaka.

Shariful Islam Jinnah is a resident of the Mahasthangarh area in Shibganj upazila of Bogura and the son of the late Azim Uddin.

The matter of the arrest was confirmed by Bogura DB Officer-in-Charge (OC) Md. Iqbal Bahar.

According to the OC, he is an accused in multiple cases, including a murder case filed over a death during the Anti-Discrimination Student Movement. Based on confidential information, a special team of Bogura DB conducted an অভিযান (operation) in the Ramna থানার (police station) area of Dhaka and arrested him.

Police sources also said that a case (Case No. 15) was filed against him on October 7 last year at Shibganj Police Station under the Explosives Act and various sections of the Penal Code. He had been absconding in that case.

In addition, a total of 10 cases, including murder and explosives-related charges, are currently under trial in court against him.

Police said that the central vice chairman of the Jatiya Party will be shown arrested in the relevant cases and sent to court as part of the legal process.
