Mahbub Piyal, Faridpur: A protest procession and rally were held in Faridpur by Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam, demanding the cancellation of an alleged illegal agreement between the interim government and the United States, and protesting against alleged attacks and persecution of Muslims in West Bengal.
After Friday prayers, leaders and activists of the organization gathered in front of the Faridpur Press Club for a protest rally. Earlier, a procession marched through different roads of the town before ending in front of the press club.
Speakers at the rally alleged that incidents of persecution against Muslims in West Bengal are increasing day by day. They condemned such incidents and called for effective measures to stop the alleged oppression immediately. At the same time, they demanded the cancellation of any “illegal agreement” between Bangladesh’s interim government and the United States.
The speakers said that the people would not accept any decision that goes against the country’s independence and sovereignty. They also urged the Muslim world to remain united.
Among those present at the rally were district president Mufti Kamruzzaman, general secretary Mawlana Ismail Hossain, president of Imam Welfare Foundation Mawlana Monsur Ahmed, district president of Student Jamiat Mohammad Mazharul Islam, and finance secretary of Youth Jamiat Enayet Talukdar, along with local leaders and activists from different levels.
The event concluded with prayers and a special munajat conducted by district president Mufti Kamruzzaman.
