A video showing thousands of crows flying in the sky over Tel Aviv, the capital of Israel, has gone viral, causing widespread reactions. Amid the ongoing conflict with Iran, such a chilling scene circulating on social media has sparked fear. Some netizens are calling it an “ominous sign” of an impending catastrophe, while others are comparing it to a “harbinger of doom.” Many are even linking it to prophecies of catastrophic war described in the Bible. Others are drawing connections to ancient folklore and practices of the British and Roman empires, where unusual bird behavior was considered a sign of misfortune. However, ornithologists (bird scientists) are reassuring that this is a normal migratory pattern of birds.

On Tuesday, dramatic footage of thousands of crows circling around several high-rise buildings, including the well-known Azrieli Towers in Tel Aviv, quickly went viral online. According to the UK-based media outlet Daily Mail, many people are linking this eerie scene to the ongoing conflict between Israel and Iran. One user on X wrote, “Many are considering this a ‘harbinger of doom,’ often followed by catastrophic events.”

Some are also associating it with biblical prophecies, specifically referring to Revelation Chapter 19, Verse 17, which describes a scene of Armageddon or the final battle. In this vision, an angel standing in the sun calls out to birds flying in midair to gather for the “great supper of God.” Reports say the massive swarm of circling crows darkened the sky over Tel Aviv, resembling clouds moving across the horizon—an astonishing sight for both residents and online viewers.

However, questions have been raised about the authenticity of the video and whether it was actually filmed in Tel Aviv. According to Times Now, some users claim the footage might be from another location, while others suggest it could be generated using artificial intelligence.

Meanwhile, bird experts emphasize that this phenomenon is not supernatural. Israel lies on one of the busiest migratory routes for birds during certain times of the year, and such large flocks are a natural occurrence. Experts note that around 500 million birds pass through Israel every spring, and hooded crows often gather in urban areas to build nests.

During seasonal transitions, environmental changes, or disruptions in their natural habitat, thousands of crows can often be seen moving across cities like Tel Aviv, especially around March. While scientists view this as a routine migratory behavior, many social media users remain unconvinced, believing that a mysterious and possibly ominous cause lies behind the massive flock.

One user commented, “A terrible omen for civilization. If something like this happened in England, it would be taken seriously. The Romans might have even stopped a war because of such a sign.”

In ancient Rome, priests known as augurs closely observed the sky. They interpreted the movement and behavior of birds as messages from the gods, influencing decisions about war, leadership, and major events.

Similarly, in many ancient myths, unusual or massive flocks of birds were seen as warnings of impending misfortune. Some social media users also mentioned the famous ravens kept at the Tower of London. According to legend, if the ravens ever leave the tower, the British Empire will fall. To preserve this tradition, at least six ravens are still kept there permanently, cared for by a dedicated raven master.
