Amid ongoing tensions in the Middle East, U.S. President Donald Trump has announced a further 10-day delay in attacks on Iran’s energy facilities. He made this announcement on Thursday (March 26) in a post on the social media platform Truth Social.
In his post, he wrote that at the request of the Iranian government, he had decided to postpone the attacks for another 10 days, until 8:00 PM on Monday, April 6.
Trump stated that although Iran had asked for a 7-day halt to the attacks, he granted them 10 days, and for this, Iran is “very grateful” to him.
According to a report by BBC, Trump said during a phone conversation with Fox News that discussions between the United States and Iran are progressing well.
The U.S. President said, “They told me through my people, can we have more time? They asked for seven days. I said, I’ll give you ten days. Because they allowed ship passage. We talked about eight ships—that’s the gift I mentioned the other day.”
Regarding the “gift” from Iran, Trump explained that Iran has allowed 10 ships to pass through the Strait of Hormuz. He added that Iran wanted to demonstrate that it is transparent and principled. Currently, eight ships are passing through, and two more will follow.
Earlier on Monday, Trump had announced a 5-day suspension of attacks on Iran’s energy facilities, but later extended it to 10 days.
During a cabinet meeting, Trump’s special envoy Steve Witkoff stated that the United States has sent a 15-point peace proposal to Iran.
On Thursday, global oil prices initially rose but dropped shortly after Trump’s announcement.
In an earlier post on Truth Social, Trump had warned that it would be better to act “seriously” on the matter as soon as possible. He cautioned that once time runs out, there will be no opportunity to turn back, and the consequences would not be favorable.
Previously, on Monday, Trump had announced that U.S. forces would halt attacks on Iran’s energy facilities until Friday. According to that timeline, the suspension was supposed to last until the following day.
